Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain of Gujarat Titans for this season. He has replaced Hardik Pandya who has been traded to Mumbai Indians. It will be a huge challenge for Gill during the upcoming season starting from 22nd March onwards. Kane Williamson was retained by Gujarat Titans franchise for this season.
He was injured while fielding during the opening match of IPL 2023 against Chennai Super Kings and ruled out of the entire season due to that injury. Gujarat Titans won the first title in 2022 on their attempt while finishing runners-up in the second edition played in 2023.
According to Kane Williamson, “It is an exciting opportunity for Shubman, a world-class player and a great thinker of the game as well. As a team, we are focusing on what’s in front of us in the roles that we have, and it is a fantastic support staff.”
Shubman Gill looked in sublime form during the 2023 edition of IPL. He was the leading run-scorer during last year’s edition with 890 runs from 17 matches (17 innings) including 3 centuries and 4 half-centuries to his name with the best score of 129. Due to his brilliance, the Gujarat Titans reached the finals.
It promises to be an exciting challenge for Shubman Gill to lead a franchise like Gujarat Titans. Hardik Pandya took GT to a victory in the 2022 edition while was runners-up in the 2023 edition losing to Chennai Super Kings in thrilling last ball finals.
Shubman Gill will look to provide positive starts in the first six overs putting enough pressure on the opponent bowlers. It would be a great chance for Gill to showcase his talent as a captain and help them to qualify for the playoff stage for the 3rd successive time.
