The Sri Lankan pacer Dushamantha Chameera has been named as a replacement for Gus Atkinson in IPL 2024. Chameera has been bought with a base price of 50 Lakhs. Gus Atkinson was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders during the IPL auction that took place on 19th December 2023.

Gus Atkinson has featured for England during the home series against New Zealand last year. He played a total of 3 T20I matches and grabbed a total of 6 wickets including best figures of 4 for 20. The pace bowler showed his class as Kolkata Knight Riders bought him in the IPL auction.

Atkinson played a total of 3 games in the ICC World Cup 2023 before playing in the limited overs series in West Indies before being in the squad during the ongoing Test series against India. Chameera has been struggling with injuries as he missed the 2023 Asia Cup played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He featured during the World Cup 2023 as Sri Lanka failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

The two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders bought Chameera for a base price of 50 Lakhs. Chameera was bought by any franchise during the IPL 2024 auction. “Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have named Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for England pacer Gus Atkinson for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League 2024,” IPL wrote in a media advisory.

He can swing the ball at 140 KMPH and would be hoping to provide the teeth in the bowling department for KKR this season.

Dushmantha Chameera’s performance in IPL history

The Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2018 but did not play. Rajasthan Royals took him in the IPL 2021 but did not play matches due to injury.

He was named as a replacement for Daniel Sams by Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and made his debut against Gujarat Titans. Chameera grabbed 2 wickets in his 4 overs.
