IPL 2024: KKR’s Rising Star Ramandeep Singh Faces Penalty For IPL Code Violation

Kolkata Knight Riders’ medium pacer, Ramandeep Singh, incurred a 20 percent fine on his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during their clash against Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens. The 27-year-old was found guilty of a Level 1 breach under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He acknowledged his wrongdoing and agreed to the penalty imposed by the Match Referee.

In accordance with the rules, decisions made by the Match Referee for Level 1 breaches are conclusive and obligatory. Despite the disciplinary setback, KKR secured a notable victory over Mumbai Indians, triumphing by 18 runs in a match affected by rain. This victory propelled them to the playoffs, making them the first team to do so this season.

The statement says: ” “When assessing the seriousness of the offence, the context of the particular situation, and whether it was deliberate, reckless, negligent, avoidable and/or accidental, shall be considered. Further, the person lodging the Report shall determine where on the range of severity the conduct lays (with the range of severity starting at conduct of a minor nature (and hence a Level 1 Offence) up to conduct of an extremely serious nature (and hence a Level 4 Offence).”

Ramandeep’s contribution to the victory was significant as he played a crucial role with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 17 runs in quick succession. His highlight was a six off the final ball bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, which propelled KKR’s total to 157/7. This total proved to be defendable as KKR’s bowlers successfully thwarted Mumbai Indians’ attempts to chase it down.

On Saturday, at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders secured an 18-run victory over Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians. This win made them the inaugural team to secure a spot in the playoffs for the 2024 season.
