IPL 2024: Marcus Stoinis Becomes The Highest Individual Run Scorer In A Match Against CSK

In Tuesday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Australia and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chepauk Stadium, Marcus Stoinis, the all-rounder for LSG, etched his name in IPL history by achieving the highest individual score ever during a run-chase. As wickets fell and the required run rate soared, Stoinis exhibited a blend of aggression and caution, anchoring his team’s chase with a meticulously crafted innings that breached CSK’s stronghold at Chepauk for the first time this season.

Stoinis’s unbeaten 124 off 63 deliveries, adorned with 13 boundaries and six maximums, showcased his exceptional strike rate of 196.83. Surpassing Paul Valthaty’s record of 120*, set against the same opponent in 2011, Stoinis not only secured the highest individual score in a run-chase but also claimed the second-highest individual score by an LSG batter, trailing only Quinton de Kock’s 140* in 2022.

Marcus Stoinis scored the highest individual knock against CSK

Moreover, Stoinis’s monumental knock stands as the highest individual score against CSK in IPL history, eclipsing Virender Sehwag’s legendary 122 for Punjab Kings in 2014. Amidst his stellar performance, Stoinis has been a consistent performer for LSG this season, amassing 254 runs at an average of 42.33 and a blistering strike rate exceeding 159, featuring a century and a fifty in eight matches.

In the pulsating encounter, LSG, opting to bowl first, faced a formidable CSK total of 210/4, propelled by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s century and Shivam Dube’s explosive half-century. Despite early struggles in the run-chase, LSG found a savior in Stoinis, who, promoted up the order, anchored the innings with aggressive strokeplay. Contributions from Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda alleviated pressure, enabling Stoinis to unleash a flurry of runs, clinching a thrilling six-wicket victory with an unbeaten 124.

Stoinis’s heroics earned him the well-deserved ‘Player of the Match’ award, elevating LSG to the fourth position with five wins and three losses, accumulating 10 points. Conversely, CSK slipped to fifth place with four wins, four losses, and a total of eight points, reflecting the ebbs and flows of IPL competition.
