IPL 2024: Mayank Yadav Of The Lucknow Super Giants Surpasses His Own Record For Delivering The Fastest Ball In The Tournament

During the IPL 2024 match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Tuesday (April 2), Lucknow Super Giants’ fast bowler Mayank Yadav exceeded his own bowling speed.

After previously reaching 155.8 km/h against the Punjab Kings, setting the record for the fastest delivery in the 2024 edition, the young speedster achieved a speed of 156.7 km/h in the 15th match of the tournament.

In achieving this feat, the 21-year-old became only the second Indian, following Umran Malik, and the fifth overall to surpass the 156 km/h mark in the history of the tournament.

Hailing from Delhi, Yadav continued his impressive performance since his debut against the Punjab Kings on March 30, where he played a crucial role in LSG’s victory. On Tuesday, he started off by taking Glenn Maxwell’s wicket and proceeded to dismiss Cameron Green and Rajat Patidar.

Despite the Super Giants posting a substandard total of 181, especially considering the venue, Yadav’s bowling figures of 4 overs, 14 runs, and 3 wickets turned the game around.

In the initial innings, Quinton de Kock (81) and Nicholas Pooran (40) exhibited superb batting performances, driving their team to a total of 181 runs in 20 overs. In response, RCB were dismissed for 153 runs.

“He’s really professional in looking after his body” – KL Rahul views on Mayank Yadav

During the post-match presentation, Super Giants captain KL Rahul commended Mayank Yadav for his perseverance and dedication to improving his bowling skills. The cricketer from Karnataka admitted to feeling intimidated when facing the right-arm pacer during net practice.

“He’s quietly patiently waited for two seasons in the dug-out, missed out last year because of injury unfortunately. But he’s been in Bombay with the physios working really hard. He understands that bowling 155 is not easy and in a young age, he’s had a few injuries,” Rahul said.

“He’s really professional in looking after his body, it’s really good to see and has a great temperament. Enjoying seeing him bowl from probably 20 yards behind the stumps, that’s where I’d like to be when he’s bowling.”

The Super Giants’ next match is scheduled against the Gujarat Titans on Sunday, April 7th. The Titans, who recently secured a seven-wicket win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, will play against the Punjab Kings on Thursday before facing the Super Giants.
