With his explosive pace, Mayank Yadav has won over fans and analysts alike. In the Lucknow Super Giants’ IPL 2024 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he bowled the fastest ball in the competition this year, clocking in at 156.7 kmph. The record was somewhat controversial, though, because Gerald Coetzee, a fast bowler for the Mumbai Indians, made headlines earlier in the day for what was purported to be a 157.4 kmph delivery against the Rajasthan Royals. Although Coetzee’s record was not included in the official list released by the Indian Premier League during LSG’s match, the news did circulate on social media.
Earlier in the match against Punjab Kings, Mayank broke the record with a blistering delivery of 156.7 kmph. The Indian Premier League said on Tuesday that the young bowler had surpassed his own record.
Often for these fast bowlers if they remain fit then there is no ceiling for their success but the toll that fast bowling fast brings on bowlers’ bodies is unbearable and could easily crash their careers with recurring injuries.
Crash or succeed is the story for these young fast bowlers if they want to leave an impact on the game. For people who want to experience the thrill and grind it takes to succeed, they should play crash games in India and explore the multitude of options.
Another list had the fastest deliveries in the competition’s history, and Shaun Tait topped it with a speed of 157.7 kmph. Lockie Ferguson (157.3 kph), Umran Malik (157 kph) of Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mayank, who is currently in fourth place, followed him.
Did Coetzee bowl faster than Mayank?
The speedometer misread Coetzee’s pace during the RR match. According to ESPNCricinfo, the delivery was actually bowled at a speed of about 141 kmph. Even though the confusion regarding Coetzee’s speed was cleared without any fuss, it could have been easily turned into a controversy for the highly lucrative league. But it seems that redemption has been the way to go after controversy after Punjab Kings’ batter Shashank Singh played a match-winning knock to defeat last year’s runner-up, Gujarat Titans.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav stated that, among other wickets, Cameron Green’s dismissal was particularly meaningful to him after he took three off the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wickets.
Mayank has made headlines in just two games because of his extreme speed, regularly reaching bowling speeds of above 150 kmph.
Mayank said in a video posted on the official IPL social media account that Green was ejected in an extremely hostile manner. He disclosed that the pacer was instructed to “attack a bit” and use bouncers by LSG captain, KL Rahul.
“Green’s wicket was special because I personally like just one kind of wicket, which is bowling people out, like any fast bowler. That over was a bit aggressive because I’d picked a wicket in the previous over. The captain also told me to attack a bit and use the bouncer with my pace,” Mayank said.
He continued by saying that his team intended to bowl at the stumps and deny the RCB hitters any space.
“No extra training, I just do things that make me quicker and stronger. This was the first time I played on this ground. I’d heard that 180 is easily chaseable on this ground but our plan was to keep bowling at the stumps and not give the batters any room,” he added.
Yadav gave just 14 runs while taking three wickets in his four-over session during the match against RCB. The pacer won “Player of the Match” after his outstanding performance. At the age of 21, the LSG seamer made history by being the first bowler in IPL history to win “Player of the Match” in both of their opening two games.
Conclusion
Mayank Yadav has become a force to be reckoned with in the chaos of IPL 2024, his rapid speed making headlines and winning hearts. Irrespective of debates around speed records, Yadav’s skill on the pitch is still evident. In addition to displaying obvious skill, his recent performance against Royal Challengers Bengaluru also showed strategic awareness and poise under duress. Mayank Yadav personifies the thrilling unpredictability of cricket, representing the exhilaration of “crash or succeed” for both players and fans as he continues to defy expectations and rewrite records.
