Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan shared an update on Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s fitness. He revealed that the Chennai Super Kings skipper is set to resume training in a few weeks to prepare for the Indian Premier League 2024 season. The franchise won the 2023 season under the wicketkeeper batter’s leadership.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni underwent surgery after the Indian Premier League 2023 final. He was often seen wearing knee strappings during the tournament. Dhoni has started his rehab and is working out in the gym, revealed CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan. He also added that the wicket-keeper will resume training in a few days. Kasi Viswanathan said as quoted by Sportstar,

“He is doing well now. He has started his rehab and is working in the gym. And, probably in another ten days, he will also start working in the nets.”

“With the season set to start around March 22, we are planning for a camp in Chennai by the first week of March,” he also added.

We pretty much got all our targets: CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan

The Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan further spoke about their signings at the Indian Premier League 2024 auction. He expressed that they had a good auction. Their biggest signings were Daryl Mitchell (INR 14 crore) and Sameer Rizvi (INR 8.40 crore). Speaking about their auction signings, Kasi Viswanathan said,

“We pretty much got all our targets. We were planning for Daryl Mitchell. Thought Mustafizur Rahman would be a good bet at our Chepauk wicket, with the big side boundaries. These were our thoughts, but we were not sure whether we would be able to get them. Luckily, it was a good auction for us this time.”

Kasi Viswanathan further spoke about Sameer Rizvi, who is known as the “right-handed Suresh Raina”. He expressed that Rizvi has shown great promise and they were lucky to have secured the deal.

“Sameer Rizvi was a targeted player for many of the franchises. We were probably a bit lucky in getting him. If you look at it, we were trying to get a replacement for Ambati Rayudu. According to us, we didn’t have enough players with that kind of experience to bid for any of them. So, we thought it was better to go in for a youngster who has the promise,” he said.

“I am not saying this just because we have picked him, he will be the next best. But the opportunity is there for that. Last year, we got Shaik Rasheed, Nishant Sindhu and Rajvardhan Hangargekar. So, we are also trying to build the team for the future, which will help us in the longer run,” added the CSK CEO.
