IPL 2024: Performance Of England Players In The Tournament

IPL 2024

IPL 2024

The England players will not take part in the remainder of the season due to the T20I series against Pakistan starting from 22nd May 2024.

Few of them had memorable performances with either bat or ball that helped their franchise to qualify for the playoffs or in the hunt for the playoff stage. It was a disappointing outing that led them to not qualify for the top four stage and are currently at the bottom place.

The franchises that would be impacted by England players are Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Here we look at the performance of England players in IPL 2024:

  1. Phil Salt

Phil Salt came as a replacement for Jason Roy. He looked in sublime form right from the word go putting enough pressure on opponent bowling. Salt and Narine ensured that Kolkata Knight Riders raced away to big totals in the first six overs.

Salt has shown tremendous consistency for Kolkata Knight Riders. He ended the IPL season with 435 runs from 12 matches (12 innings) including 4 half-centuries to his name at a strike rate of 182. His best score in the tournament was 89 not out against Lucknow Super Giants.

KKR will miss the services of Phil Salt as they qualified for the playoff stage as table toppers.

  1. Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler played a key role for Rajasthan Royals in helping them to qualify for the playoff stage. After a string of low scores, Buttler came up with a superb unbeaten century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur.

Buttler missed one or two matches due to an injury. He made a total of 359 runs from 11 matches (11 innings) with 2 centuries to his name including match-winning 107 not out against Kolkata Knight Riders that helped RR register a thrilling 2 wicket win.

He came as an impact player in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It was a sensational knock by Buttler who took the game away with his explosive batting.

  1. Will Jacks

Will Jacks made his IPL debut for RCB against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. He did not play the first few matches as RCB struggled with their performance.

After the arrival of Jacks, the fortune changed for RCB. He struggled initially against GT before launching an assault on GT bowling with brilliant 100 off 41 balls helping RCB win the match by 9 wickets.

He played a total of 8 matches (8 innings) and scored 230 runs with a strike rate of 131. His best score came from 100 not out against GT. Jacks scored 1 century and 1 half-century to his name.

  1. Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow looked out of sorts with his aggressive style of play. He was dropped from the team due to poor performance. The dashing hard-hitting right-handed batter made a total of 284 runs from 10 matches (10 innings) with 1 century. His best knock came against Kolkata Knight Riders where he made 108 not out and helped Punjab Kings chase down record 262.

Apart from this brilliant knock, Bairstow got starts but was not able to convert it into a big score. He will play his last match against Rajasthan Royals today and hopes to end the season with a superb knock to help Punjab Kings move from the bottom of the points table.

  1. Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali’s performance with the bat has not been impressive this season. He was not included in the playing XI for most of the matches. Moeen scored just 128 runs from 8 matches (5 innings) with only 1 half-century. His best score came against Gujarat Titans 56 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Moeen Ali struggled with the bowl getting 8 overs from 8 matches so far picking only 2 wickets at an economy of 8.88 runs per over with best figures of 2 for 23 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He will play the final league match against RCB which would be a knockout match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 18th May 2024.

  1. Sam Curran

Sam Curran had a mixed-bag season with both bat and ball. He was appointed the captain of PBKS after Shikhar Dhawan could not feature due to an injury.

Curran scored a total of 207 runs from 12 matches (11 innings) with 1 half-century to his name. His best score was 63 against Delhi Capitals in their opening match at Mullanpur.

Sam Curran is currently the leading wicket-taker for PBKS with 14 wickets from 12 matches (12 innings) at an economy of 10.31 runs per over. His best figures were 3 for 28 against Lucknow Super Giants.

  1. Liam Livingstone

Liam Livingstone had a horrendous season for Punjab Kings this season with both bat and ball. With the ball, he picked up 3 wickets from 7 matches (4 innings) at an economy of 7.00 runs per over. His best figure was against Gujarat Titans with 2 for 19.

Livingstone featured in 7 matches scoring 111 runs with the best score of 38 not out against Delhi Capitals which helped PBKS win the match.  He will be going to England and will not feature in the remaining two matches.
