Right before the IPL, Rajasthan Royals has been dealt a huge blow as star bowler Prasidh Krishna will not take part in the tournament due to an injury. It is a huge blow for Rajasthan Royals as Krishna missed the entire 2023 IPL season. Sandeep Sharma replaced him during last year’s IPL. Prasidh was bought by the Rajasthan Royals franchise for a staggering Rs 10 Crore in IPL 2022. He was retained by the franchise during the 2023 season.

Rajasthan Royals struggled with their bowling as they could not qualify for the playoffs stage. They finished above Royal Challengers Bangalore and led to some disappointing performances by Buttler and Sanju Samson. Rajasthan Royals would be hoping to perform much better in this year’s edition. They will begin the season against Lucknow Super Giants on 24th March 2024.

Sanju Samson-led side bought West Indies explosive batter Rovman Powell to strengthen their middle order for Rs 7.4 Crore.  They bought uncapped Shubham Dubey for 5.80 Crore, Tom Kohler Cadmore for Rs 40 Lakhs, Abid Mushtaq for 20 Lakhs, and Nandie Burger for 50 Lakhs.

They decided to retain their core group for this year’s edition including Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetymer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Kunal Rathore, R Ashwin, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini, Sandeep Sharma, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Adam Zampa. They decided to trade Avesh Khan from Lucknow Super Giants.

The Rajasthan Royals decided to release Joe Root, Abdul Basith, Jason Holder, Akash Vashisht, Kuldip Yadav, Obed McCoy, Murugan Ashwin, KC Cariappa, and KM Asif. Krishna played against Gujarat during the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy and was injured in the first innings. He took 2 for 62 in 14.5 overs. He made his Test debut during the first match at Centurion struggling for form picking only 1 wicket.

His performances looked ordinary in T20Is after making his T20I debut against Ireland in August 2023. Krishna was taken to the cleaners during the home series against Australia going at 11 runs per over.

Prasidh Krishna’s performance in IPL

Prasidh Krishna played a key role in Rajasthan Royal’s dream run during the 2022 edition of IPL. He bowled with great control, picking up 19 wickets from 17 matches with best figures of 3 for 22, and helped RR to qualify for the finals.

Rajasthan Royals could not win the title as they lost to Gujarat Titans during the 2022 season. Yuvzvendra Chahal ended as the leading wicket-taker for Rajasthan Royals last year with 21 wickets from 14 matches at an economy of 8.17 runs per over.
