IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant Receives Fine For Breaching The IPL Code Of Conduct

Delhi Capitals’ captain, Rishabh Pant, incurred a substantial fine of Rs 12 lakhs due to his team’s slow over-rate during the IPL match against Chennai Super Kings in Visakhapatnam. This penalty was imposed as it marked the first breach of the league’s Code of Conduct by his team in the current season. Despite Pant’s exemplary batting performance, including a significant contribution of 51 runs in 32 balls, alongside a late cameo by MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings fell short of the target set by Delhi Capitals, ultimately losing by 20 runs.

The IPL administration confirmed Pant’s infraction in a public statement, specifying the circumstances under which the fine was levied. The fine of Rs 12 lakhs was attributed directly to Pant’s leadership as the captain of Delhi Capitals, given the team’s failure to maintain the required over-rate during the match against Chennai Super Kings. This occurrence marked the first instance of such a violation by Pant’s team in the ongoing IPL season, prompting the enforcement of the prescribed penalty.

Notable Performances by Warner & Shaw Set Stage for Competitive Total

The match itself witnessed noteworthy performances, with David Warner and Prithvi Shaw establishing an impressive opening partnership for Delhi Capitals, setting the stage for a competitive total. However, it was Pant’s late flourish that propelled Delhi Capitals to a formidable score of 191/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite valiant efforts from CSK’s batsmen, including contributions from Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, and the ever-dependable MS Dhoni, they were unable to chase down the target set by Delhi Capitals, ultimately falling short by 20 runs.

Khaleel Ahmed’s exceptional bowling performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his pivotal role in securing victory for Delhi Capitals. With this win, Delhi Capitals positioned themselves in the seventh spot on the IPL leaderboard, while Chennai Super Kings maintained their second-place standing, reflecting a competitive start to the season for both teams.
