Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson isn’t known for displaying much emotion during matches. However, he couldn’t contain his excitement after securing victory for the Royals against the Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2024 encounter on Saturday, April 27th.
Samson shifted within the ball’s trajectory and elegantly flicked it over fine leg for a six, securing the game in favour of RR. The Rajasthan captain was determined to stay unbeaten and guide his team to victory. Upon achieving this, he erupted in joy and embraced Dhruv Jurel warmly.
In pursuit of 197 runs, RR comfortably won with an over and seven wickets remaining. Although Samson appeared joyful, KL Rahul wore a disappointed expression, which was understandable considering LSG’s strong moments in the game. The video also captured the excitement of players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and others in the RR dugout.

Sanju Samson is in sublime form with the bat
Sanju Samson’s scintillating innings of 71* off 33 deliveries included some crucial moments at the start, where he had to establish partnerships first with Riyan Parag and then with Dhruv Jurel. The RR skipper adapted adeptly to the conditions, crediting his wicket-keeping role as one of the main factors.
Reflecting on this during the post-match presentation, Samson remarked: “To be honest I am very lucky to be behind the wickets throughout the game. When we were bowling with the new ball, I knew there was some purchase in the wicket when they bowled Test-match lengths and once the ball got old it was a very good wicket to bat on.”
Samson notched his fourth fifty of IPL 2024. This reliability might have secured his position as a wicketkeeper in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 team, expected to be revealed soon.
