Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants had a mixed bag of tournaments last year qualifying for the eliminator. They suffered a major blow as KL Rahul was ruled out of the tournament due to a severe injury.

They decided to bring Shivam Mavi for 6.40 Crore, Arshin Kulkarni for 20 Lakhs, M Siddharth for 2.40 Crore, Ashton Turner for 1 Crore, David Willey for 2 Crore and Mohammad Arshad Khan for 20 Lakhs.

Shamar Joseph has been named replacement for Mark Wood by the Lucknow Super Giants franchise. Lucknow Super Giants will start their 2024 IPL against Rajasthan Royals to be played against on 24th March.

Here we look at the SWOT Analysis of Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024:

Strengths

Lucknow Super Giants has a solid batting unit which comprises Quinton de Kock, Kyle Mayers, KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, Nicolas Pooran, Krunal Pandya, and Ayush Badoni. LSG traded Devdutt Paddikal from Rajasthan Royals which will strengthen their batting lineup.

The bowling also looks impressive as they added Shivam Mavi for Rs 6.4 Crore. He might be a backup for Mohsin Khan. KL Rahul will be key leading from the front and coming into the tournament from a quadriceps injury. M Siddharth has also been bought by LSG with backup to Ravi Bishnoi.

Weakness

Lucknow Super Giants’ bowling attack comprised Mark Wood, Mohsin Khan, Yash Thakur, Naveen UL Haq, Mayank Yadav, Yudhvir Singh, Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra. This time during the IPL auction, they decided to buy Mavi, Siddharth, and Arshad Khan.

The bowling looks a little brittle with the lack of experience and ability to stop the batters from scoring runs freely.  Shamar Joseph has been named as the replacement for Mark Wood and would be eager to showcase his skills, but his lack of experience will dent their bowling.

Opportunities

The Lucknow Super Giants showed a lot of faith in Indian domestic players doing well in the domestic circuit including Mavi and M Siddarth. Ayush Badoni and Ravi Bishnoi would be looking to continue the superb form that they displayed during IPL 2023.

Naveen UL Haq will look beyond his fight with Virat Kohli and prove his worth against the world’s best.

Threats

Lucknow Super Giants looks like a well-gelled unit in this year’s IPL too. Shivam Mavi, who was bought for Rs 6.4 Crore, the focus be on his fitness as he was not seen in action for quite a long time.

The absence of Mark Wood impacted Lucknow Super Giants in the second half of IPL 2023. This year too, he would not feature which could hamper their chances during this year’s IPL too.

Expectations

Lucknow Super Giants looks like a solid batting unit which can pose a big threat to their opponent bowling. They need to prove their worth with their bowling as they need domestic players like Shivam Mavi, M Siddharth, and Ravi Bishnoi to stand up keeping the scoreboard in check.

Lucknow Super Giants might not qualify for the playoff stage as they need star players to step up big time.
