Reflecting on his early days with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) under Shankar Basu’s guidance since 2010, Kohli recounted how he initially questioned the significance of extensive running drills prescribed to him. Speaking to Star Sports he said: “This is from 2015, I have already told that I have been in RCB with Shankar Basu since 2010. When I was not a big player, I used to have a lot of experience on the field. I was advised to run 20 rounds. At that time I could not understand why so much running was being done. Because at that time I believed that there was no need for so much running in cricket. But now I have understood the importance of that training. Because I have learned about the benefits of running.“
“Long haul also has its benefits, but I did not want to do that in the initial days of my career. I still remember that whenever I came back from a break, my stamina was exhausted. Because of this, I have been focusing on training, which helps me maintain my stamina in the field.”

Despite acknowledging the potential advantages of endurance training, Kohli confessed to prioritizing different methods during the nascent stages of his career, citing instances where he grappled with depleted stamina following breaks.
