Abishek Porel delivered a spectacular performance for the Delhi Capitals (DC) against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) during their clash in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, on March 23, 2024.

Porel, stepping in as an Impact Player, showcased his batting prowess by hammering an unbeaten 32 runs off just 10 balls, comprising two sixes and four boundaries. In a sensational display of power hitting, he dismantled Harshal Patel in the final over, plundering 25 runs to propel DC to a competitive total.

Initiating his assault with a boundary towards backward square leg, Porel unleashed a six over mid-off before dispatching another delivery to the boundary ropes. With relentless aggression, he struck a four towards third man and concluded the onslaught with a towering six over square leg, culminating with a single to complete the 25-run over.

Reflecting on his impactful performance, Porel expressed his strategy of aggressive stroke play, stating, โ€œMy plan was to hit the ball where it came from.โ€ He emphasized his readiness for the role entrusted upon him, crediting his preparation for the successful execution on the field.

Porelโ€™s confidence in the teamโ€™s ability to defend their total against PBKS was evident as he asserted, โ€œ174 is a good score and our bowling unit is good, so letโ€™s see.โ€ Furthermore, Porelโ€™s contribution underscores his growing stature in the IPL, having been retained by the Delhi-based franchise for INR 20 lakh ahead of the auction.

With a strike rate of 140, the Bengal-born wicketkeeper-batter has amassed 294 runs in 14 innings, showcasing his potential as a valuable asset for DC. The match also marked the return of DCโ€™s regular skipper, Rishabh Pant, after a hiatus of 15 months in competitive cricket, adding an extra dimension to the teamโ€™s performance.
