It’s noteworthy that Rohit Sharma was replaced as the captain of MI before IPL 2024. Mumbai acquired the talented all-rounder Hardik Pandya in an all-cash deal from Gujarat Titans (GT) and appointed him as their new captain.
Sharma’s tenure as Mumbai’s captain was highly successful, guiding the team to five IPL titles. Despite the team’s loss against Gujarat in the opening match of the season, Sharma showcased excellent form with the bat, scoring 43 runs off 29 balls.
Rohit Sharma received a special jersey before his 200th match for MI in the IPL
The ongoing MI vs SRH match commemorated Rohit Sharma’s 200th IPL appearance for Mumbai. The franchise honoured the veteran player by giving him a special jersey. Indian cricket great Sachin Tendulkar presented Sharma with a unique team jersey, featuring the number 200 printed on the back.
Sharma participated in the initial three editions of the IPL with the now-disbanded Deccan Chargers. Mumbai acquired him during the 2011 mega-auction for ₹9.20 crore, and he has remained a crucial member of the team since then.
During the 2013 season, Sharma assumed captaincy after Ricky Ponting transferred leadership to him. With 5084 runs, Sharma holds the record for the most runs scored by a player for MI in the IPL.
