IPL 2024: [WATCH]- ‘Quality Over Quantity…’: Virat Kohli Discusses Reinventing Himself Amid Discussions About His Strike Rate

Despite criticism about his strike rate in T20 cricket, there’s no doubt that Virat Kohli remains the best batsman in the country across formats. Virat Kohli excels in the IPL, leading RCB by prioritizing quality in practice.

Despite currently being at seventh place, the team aims for playoffs, relying on Kohli’s exceptional performance. Kohli holds the Orange Cap in this edition of the IPL, having amassed 634 runs in 12 matches, with an average of 70.44 and a strike rate of 153.51.

Ahead of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL match against Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Sunday, the official IPL handle shared a video featuring Kohli discussing his process of reinventing himself in the ever-evolving cricket landscape.

The video has Kohli saying, “I am certainly not a guy who wants to sit around saying this is the way I play and not improve on the things that I need to. The understanding of your game over so many years is something that allows you to practice less but still stay mentally switched on.”

“For me it’s still quality over quantity, that’s something I try to replicate in every practice session that 1 go through. And some added challenges in terms of improving your own game because it’s an ever-evolving process. I brought out the slog sweep against the spinners.”

“It’s something I just mentally put myself in that situation. I’m just like 1 need to take a bit more risk because I am always looking to expose that side of the field against the spin, which for me has been a massive factor in this IPL,” Kohli adds.

“I think it needs a bit more conviction and to take out that thought that props up what if you get out. So I think I have been managing to stay ahead of that thought in this IPL and that’s really helped me through the middle overs keeping my strike rate up and keeping the scoring going for the team as well,” Virat concluded.
