During their IPL 2024 match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday, March 27, Mumbai Indians (MI) veteran Rohit Sharma appeared to take charge of setting the field instead of skipper Hardik Pandya. In a widely circulated video on social media, Rohit was observed directing fielders and instructing Hardik to position himself deep towards the boundary region.
In a previous game against Gujarat Titans (GT), there was a viral clip of Hardik instructing Rohit to field at the boundary, and seeing Rohit taking charge in this match excited the fans.

Abhishek Sharma came in at No. 3 and further compounded Mumbai’s woes by surpassing Head’s record for the fastest IPL fifty for SRH, achieving his half-century in just 16 balls. In this situation, Pandya’s decision to hold back Jasprit Bumrah, who had bowled only one over for five runs, seemed even more puzzling.
Heinrich Klaasen starred with an outstanding 80 runs off only 34 balls, partnering with Aiden Markram for a massive 116-run stand, propelling the SunRisers to a record-breaking total of 277/3.
The outcome appears to be inevitable, as Mumbai Indians would require an extraordinary effort to even approach the SunRisers’ score. Mumbai Indians will play their upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on 1st April.
