England’s wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt has been bought by RCB for a record amount of Rs 11.50 crore in the IPL mega auction. RCB won the bidding war against KKR to acquire Salt, who remains on the radar for the IPL 2025 captaincy contention.

When RCB let go of their captain Faf du Plessis, they started the search for a new one to lead the team in the 2025 edition. The team initially sought to purchase their old icon KL Rahul, but he was eventually bought by the Delhi Capitals. However, RCB bought Salt in a fair manner with a bid amount of just Rs 11.50 crore only.

Salt, at the moment, occupies the second position in the ICC’s T20I batters’ ratings and is likely to take over from Jos Buttler as England’s new white-ball captain. The new signing will definitely add value to RCB, as the 26-year-old could very well be an integral part of the team’s outing.

RCB was also in the market for a new wicketkeeper since Dinesh Karthik retired from international cricket at the end of the last season. This problem is solved by signing Salt for the role, and with the IPL season fast approaching, his boss will be expecting him to make a mark as both a batsman and a wicketkeeper.
