The much-anticipated IPL 2025 Mega Auction is set to take place on November 30, as confirmed by reports. The IPL Governing Council has earmarked this date for the auction, which will allow teams to bid for players ahead of the next season.
Dubai, a preferred venue from last year’s auction, has been suggested as a potential location again. The Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai hosted the 2024 auction, and it seems likely that the city will welcome the event once more. Ten franchises will compete to build their squads for the next three seasons.
Retention Deadline and Team Preparations
Franchises are busy finalizing their player retentions ahead of the October 31 deadline. According to ESPNcricinfo, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has already confirmed three retentions: captain Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, and Abhishek Sharma. Cummins, who saw a pay cut from INR 18 crore, will continue leading the side.
On the other hand, Klaasen has seen a significant salary boost, with a 338 percent increase from last season. With each team carefully selecting their key players, fierce bidding is expected during the auction as franchises look to form the best possible squads.
Dale Steyn Departs as SRH Bowling Coach
In a surprising move, Dale Steyn, SRH’s bowling coach for IPL 2024, announced via social media that he will not return in the same capacity for the 2025 season. Steyn expressed gratitude for his time with the team and shared that he will continue his association with the Sunrisers franchise through their SA20 team, Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
The team has already won the SA20 championship twice, and Steyn aims to help them achieve a third title. His departure leaves SRH with the task of finding a new bowling coach ahead of IPL 2025.
