IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals End On A High With Clinical Chase

Delhi Capitals wrapped up their IPL 2025 campaign with a thrilling six-wicket victory over Punjab Kings, chasing down a daunting 207-run target in 19.3 overs. The win was highlighted by Sameer Rizvi’s explosive maiden IPL half-century. The 21-year-old remained unbeaten on 58 off just 25 balls, smashing five sixes and three boundaries.

Karun Nair, recently recalled to the Indian Test team, also played a vital role with a fluent 44 off 27 deliveries. Their collective efforts helped DC finish their season on a positive note. Despite the defeat, PBKS still occupies a top-two spot, though their qualification for Qualifier 1 is not yet secure.

PBKS Post Competitive Total with Contributions from Iyer and Stoinis

Earlier, Punjab Kings posted a formidable total of 206 for eight. Skipper Shreyas Iyer led the charge with a solid 53 off 34 balls, while Marcus Stoinis added late fireworks with an unbeaten 44 from just 16 deliveries, including four sixes and three boundaries. The innings began with promise despite Priyansh Arya falling early to Mustafizur Rahman, who finished with figures of 3/33.

Josh Inglis and Prabhsimran Singh added quick runs, with the latter playing some aggressive shots before being bowled by Vipraj Nigam. Iyer continued to accelerate the innings with boundaries off Kuldeep Yadav and Mohit Sharma. Though he eventually holed out to Mohit, Stoinis capitalized on a dropped catch and punished the DC bowlers in the death overs.

DC Overcome Pressure Thanks to Key Cameos and Young Talent

Delhi’s chase began positively as KL Rahul (35 off 21) and stand-in captain Faf du Plessis (23 off 15) put up 55 runs within the first six overs. Rahul played some elegant strokes before falling to Marco Jansen, while Du Plessis fell to a mistimed shot. Karun Nair’s aggressive approach, including a six off his first delivery, kept the scoreboard ticking.

His innings featured a flurry of boundaries off Praveen Dubey before he was bowled by Harpreet Brar. Despite his dismissal at a key point, Rizvi’s fearless batting ensured DC crossed the finish line with three balls to spare. The result leaves the race for the top two spots wide open and adds excitement as the league phase nears its end.
