IPL 2025: KL Rahul Shifts Batting Spot Ahead Of Crucial DC vs GT Match

India’s star batter KL Rahul is expected to open the innings for Delhi Capitals (DC) in their upcoming IPL 2025 fixture against Gujarat Titans (GT), scheduled to be played in Delhi on Sunday, May 18. According to a report by ‘The Times of India’, Rahul may also continue as an opener in DC’s following matches against Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).

So far in IPL 2025, the 33-year-old has primarily featured at the No. 4 spot in DC’s batting order. He has accumulated 381 runs across 10 games, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 142.16. KL Rahul was signed by DC for ₹14 crore during the mega auction held in November 2024.

Currently, Delhi Capitals (DC) are placed fifth on the points table with 13 points from 10 matches and a net run rate of 0.362. In their most recent outing before the IPL was paused, DC shared points with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad after rain forced an early end to the match during the second innings.

Injury Woes May Push KL Rahul to Opening Slot for DC

Delhi Capitals (DC) are set to restart their IPL 2025 campaign with a match against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, May 18. However, the team will be without Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has opted not to return to India for the remainder of the tournament.

While Faf du Plessis is expected to rejoin the squad, ongoing fitness concerns cast doubt over his inclusion in the starting XI led by Axar Patel. KL Rahul, who has extensive experience as an IPL opener, may step into the role once again.

He has opened in 100 IPL matches, scoring 4,260 runs at a strike rate of 137.15. His record includes 36 half-centuries and four centuries in that position. Rahul began opening in the IPL during the 2013 season while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
