Rishabh Pant has been announced as the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka revealed the information on January 20. Pant is a 27-year-old Indian wicketkeeper-batter for whom LSG has obtained in the IPL 2025 mega auction for Rs 27 crore. He has valuable leadership experience as he had a chance to captain Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021, IPL 2022, and IPL 2024.

Pant will become the fourth player to lead LSG in the IPL as a whole, hence succeeding KL Rahul, Krunal Pandya, and Nicholas Pooran. Leading the charge as captain will be Pant, who will be assisted by head coach Justin Langer as well as team mentor Zaheer Khan. Pant at the head of LSG is projected to make a major statement in the IPL 2025 season.

“We had kept a budget of Rs 27 crore for Rishabh Pant”- Sanjeev Goenka

Sanjeev Goenka, the owner of LSG, named Pant the team’s captain in an exclusive interview with Star Sports. Goenka claims that the franchise had maintained the Rs 27 crore budget for the 27-year-old.

“Very simple and that is about announcing the captain of LSG for the future and that is Rishabh Pant. We have decided on that the moment we won him in the auction but we were waiting for the moment to announce it together,” Sanjeev Goenka said.

“We had kept a budget of Rs 27 crore for Rishabh Pant. Us were adamant at getting him (during IPL auction). Rishabh Pant isn’t just going to be the best player of LSG but of IPL itself. Never seen someone with so much passion. He’s the boy next door, his connect with the players, teams and thought process is different. Conventional thought process lacks uniqueness. I see him as a leader. He will probably be the best captain IPL has seen,” he added.
