IPL 2025 : Noor Ahmad Shines On CSK Debut, Credits MS Dhoni For Support

Noor Ahmad, the young Afghan spinner, made a remarkable debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2025 season opener against Mumbai Indians (MI). CSK started their campaign on a high note by securing a four-wicket victory. Chasing 156 runs, CSK reached the target in 19.1 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 65* off 45 balls by Rachin Ravindra, who sealed the win with a six.

Noor, however, stole the limelight with his exceptional bowling performance, taking 4/18 in his four-over spell. His efforts earned him the Player of the Match award. Noor was CSK’s most expensive signing in the IPL 2025 auction held in Jeddah, where he was bought for ₹10 crores.

After the match, Noor Ahmad spoke about his excitement to play for CSK and his desire to contribute consistently throughout the season. “The stumping from MSD was out of this world. It feels great to have someone like Mahi bhai behind the stumps, providing constant support,” Noor said. Dhoni’s experience and sharp reflexes continue to be an asset for CSK, making him a guiding force for young players like Noor.

CSK’s All-Round Performance and Gaikwad’s Perspective

CSK’s batting was anchored by Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Ravindra’s unbeaten 65* and Gaikwad’s quick 53 off 26 balls ensured that CSK chased down MI’s target comfortably. MI’s bowlers, led by Vignesh Puthur, who took three wickets, tried their best but could not prevent CSK’s victory. MI’s batting lineup struggled, managing only 155/9 despite Khaleel Ahmed’s brilliant three-wicket haul for CSK.

Speaking after the match, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance but emphasized the need for more clinical finishes. He praised the spinners, including Noor, and highlighted the excitement of having a balanced bowling attack at Chepauk. Gaikwad also noted that Dhoni appeared fitter and sharper this season, adding to CSK’s confidence.
