IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma’s Current Form Becomes A Concern For Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma has faced a tough time in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. In six matches so far, he has failed to cross the 50-run mark. His highest score has been 26 runs, which came against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite being one of the most experienced batters in the tournament, Rohit’s recent form has become a major concern for the Mumbai Indians.

He has had a string of low scores, including 0, 8, 13, 17, and 18, which has seen him playing only as an impact substitute in the current season under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. This role change has raised questions and debates among fans and cricket experts.

His current form has been disappointing, especially for someone of his stature in the game. Although he gave the team a good start against Hyderabad by scoring 26 off just 16 balls, it wasn’t enough to shift the ongoing narrative about his lack of big scores.

Boucher’s Faith in Rohit’s Comeback

Former South African cricketer Mark Boucher, who coached Mumbai Indians in the previous IPL season, has shown strong support for Rohit Sharma. While speaking about the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Boucher expressed his belief in Rohit’s ability to bounce back.

“Rohit Sharma took it upon himself to go after the bowlers. We saw some good old-fashioned Rohit Sharma sixes – big ones too. I liked his attitude,” Boucher said.

He also added, “He put the bowlers under pressure, created scoring opportunities. He was just past the 30-mark — a big score is coming very soon. He’s looking in that zone again.”

According to Boucher, the way Rohit batted showed positive signs and reminded fans of his vintage form. The South African coach believes Rohit is close to making a strong comeback.

Positive Signs Despite Failure

Though Rohit failed to convert his quick start into a big score, he did give Mumbai a strong start. He hit three clean sixes early in his innings, showing signs of returning to form. Unfortunately, he got out trying to go for another big shot off a full toss from Pat Cummins, only to find Travis Head.

His dismissal was followed by visible disappointment, as he missed yet another chance to make a meaningful contribution. However, Mumbai Indians still managed to secure a four-wicket victory and now sit at seventh position in the ten-team table, with three wins and four losses. Their next game is against their arch-rivals, Chennai Super Kings, on April 20 at home.
