IPL 2025: Shubman Gill Penalized For Slow Over-Rate Against DC

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was fined ₹12 lakhs for his team’s slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad. This marks GT’s first such offence of the season, falling under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate requirements.

Despite their impressive performance and eventual victory, the penalty highlighted the importance of maintaining the league’s pace-of-play standards. Although the match ended in Gujarat’s favour, the fine serves as a reminder to teams to stay within the time limits to avoid further consequences in future matches.

GT Clinches Victory Chasing a Mammoth Total

Gujarat Titans successfully chased down a formidable target of 204, finishing at 204/3 in just 19.2 overs. Jos Buttler was the standout performer, smashing an unbeaten 97 off 54 deliveries. His innings featured 11 boundaries and four sixes, demonstrating complete dominance over the DC bowling attack.

Sherfane Rutherford also played a valuable supporting role, ensuring that the momentum stayed with GT throughout the chase. Earlier in the game, Prasidh Krishna’s four-wicket haul restricted DC to 203/8 in 20 overs. Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav were the only wicket-takers for Delhi. GT’s seven-wicket victory pushed them up in the points table, reaffirming their strength in the ongoing tournament.

Buttler Reflects on Conditions and Teammates’ Contributions

After being named Player of the Match, Jos Buttler expressed satisfaction with the win and praised the pitch conditions. He mentioned that it was a great surface for batting but noted the physically draining heat, which made hydration a major concern during play.

Reflecting on his performance, Buttler said he aimed to take the game deep and pick key moments to attack. He also credited his partnership with Sherfane Rutherford, whose quick sixes off Mohit Sharma shifted the match’s momentum.

Buttler emphasized team success over personal milestones, even telling teammate Rahul Tewatia not to worry about his approaching century. He acknowledged the importance of fitness in high-pressure conditions and took pride in his improved fielding after previously struggling behind the stumps. Overall, the win was a team effort marked by strategic batting, key wickets, and spirited camaraderie.
