IPL 2025- ‘That’s Why I Stay Away!’: Karthik Teases Axar After Net Session

Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Axar Patel paused his net session to greet his former teammate and current Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) mentor Dinesh Karthik, just a day before their crucial IPL 2025 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. While Axar was batting in the nets, Karthik quietly made his way over after spotting the all-rounder in action.

As soon as he noticed Karthik nearby, Axar stepped out to greet the ex-India wicketkeeper-batter. A bit taken aback by the gesture, Karthik playfully urged Axar to focus on his practice, saying a captain shouldn’t be distracted mid-session. When Axar didn’t return to the nets immediately, Karthik joked as he walked away:

“Don’t joke around, please carry on batting. That’s exactly why I don’t come near the nets.”

Here’s how the light-hearted exchange unfolded between Axar and Dinesh Karthik:

Axar Patel: DK Bhai ko hello toh bolunga na. (I will say hello to my brother, DL)

Dinesh Karthik: Be a good captain

Axar Patel: Arey DK bhai, bhai ho yaar aap. (You are my brother, DK)

Dinesh Karthik: Eh tu khel na yaar. Mazak mat kar. Islie main net ke paas nahi ata. You go and bat, don’t fool around. That’s exactly why I don’t come near the nets).

Axar Patel Leads DC to Second Spot, Eyes Another Big Show from KL Rahul

Axar Patel has led from the front this season, guiding Delhi Capitals to the second spot on the points table with 12 points from 8 games. In their previous encounter against RCB, it was KL Rahul who played a key role in securing the win for DC. Axar will be hoping for another strong performance from his star batter in the upcoming clash.

Meanwhile, DC opener Jake Fraser-McGurk has lauded Axar’s leadership on the field. He stated:

“Axar is just one of those players that leads everyone, and everyone follows him. He’s an amazing talent, and the way he plays just makes everyone really proud to be at Delhi Capitals. He remains calm and relaxed at all times. We love playing under Axar, and we think he’s one of the best players in our team that we can follow, and he can be a leader.”

“He always says keep smiling to everyone, not just me. He’s one of those guys who is so relaxed in all these situations. It feels like you’re talking to one of your best friends instead of the captain. So he’s been awesome,” the 23-year-old added.
