The 36-year-old achieved this landmark during Match 20 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced off against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, April 7.
Chris Gayle still holds the record for the fastest to 13,000 T20 runs, having accomplished the feat during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2019 match for Jamaica Tallawahs against the Barbados Tridents. With this achievement, Kohli joins an elite group of T20 run-scorers that includes Gayle, Alex Hales, Shoaib Malik, and Kieron Pollard.
