Returning to the IPL after a three-year hiatus, Karun Nair reminded fans of his explosive talent. Playing for Delhi Capitals, he smashed an impressive 89 off just 40 balls, steering his side close to a daunting 206-run target set by Mumbai Indians. Nair reached his fifty in just 22 balls, displaying an array of attacking strokes that left the MI bowlers struggling.
Teaming up with Abishek Porel, he put on a 119-run partnership that revived DC after the early loss of Jake Fraser-McGurk. His form was a reflection of his consistent performances in domestic cricket, and for a while, it seemed like he would single-handedly guide DC to victory.
On-Field Clash with Bumrah Sparks Drama
In a high-pressure moment during the chase, Nair’s brilliance was briefly overshadowed by a heated altercation with MI’s Jasprit Bumrah. While completing a second run, Nair accidentally brushed past Bumrah near the non-striker’s end. What appeared to be a minor incident quickly escalated into a tense face-off. Bumrah reacted angrily, confronting Nair, who in turn tried to explain himself.

Despite Nair’s attempt to calm the situation, Bumrah remained visibly agitated. The situation grew intense until MI captain Hardik Pandya intervened to restore calm. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, watching from the field, had a rather amused reaction. Although the incident didn’t escalate further, it added another layer of tension to the thrilling encounter.
Delhi’s Collapse Hands MI the Win
Despite Nair’s brilliance and the strong foundation he built, DC’s innings unraveled dramatically after his dismissal. Needing just 23 runs off the final 12 deliveries with three wickets in hand, the team collapsed in shocking fashion. In a bizarre turn of events, Delhi lost three batters—Ashutosh Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohit Sharma—to run-outs in the 19th over, effectively sealing their defeat.
Mumbai Indians, who had earlier posted 205/5 thanks to Tilak Varma’s 59 and brisk contributions from Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, and Naman Dhir, celebrated a narrow 12-run win. Despite disciplined bowling from Kuldeep Yadav, it was DC’s chaotic finish that cost them the game and brought an end to their unbeaten run in IPL 2025.
