In a run-fest at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off a sensational six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 2 of the Indian Premier League 2026 on Sunday.

Batting first, KKR posted a massive total of 220/4 in their 20 overs. The innings was powered by strong top and middle-order performances, with youngsters and experienced batters contributing to maintain a high run rate throughout.

Angrish Raghuvanshi played a brilliant knock of 51, while Rinku Singh added a quickfire 33 towards the end, helping KKR cross the 200-run mark. Despite the onslaught, MI managed to pick up timely wickets, with Shardul Thakur emerging as the standout bowler, claiming three crucial wickets.

Chasing a daunting target of 221, MI came out with fearless intent. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton gave a blazing start, stitching together a match-defining partnership. Rohit smashed 78 off just 38 balls, while Rickelton anchored the chase with a superb 81 off 43 deliveries.

MI finished at 224/4 in just 19.1 overs, completing the chase with five balls to spare. Statistically, this match turned out to be one of the highest-scoring games early in the season, with a combined total of 444 runs. MI’s run rate of 11.69 highlighted their dominance in the chase.
