The Punjab Kings (PBKS) continued their dominant run in IPL 2026 with a clinical 7-wicket victoryover the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. In a high-scoring encounter that showcased both individual brilliance and collective power, PBKS successfully chased down a target of 196 with 21 balls to spare.

This victory propels Punjab to the top of the points table, while leaving the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, searching for answers after their fourth consecutive defeat of the season. Sent in to bat first, Mumbai Indians suffered a catastrophic start, reeling at 12/2 within the first few overs.

Arshdeep Singh was the architect of this early collapse, producing a historic spell where he became the first bowler to reach 100 IPL wickets for the Punjab Kings. He dismissed Ryan Rickelton for just 2 and followed it up by removing the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck.

However, Quinton de Kock single-handedly resurrected the Mumbai innings with a magnificent unbeaten 112 off 60 balls, featuring 8 fours and 7 sixes. De Kock found a reliable partner in Naman Dhir, who smashed a quickfire 50 off 31 balls in a massive 132-run partnership.

Their efforts guided MI to a competitive total of 195/6, with Arshdeep finishing as the pick of the bowlers with stellar figures of 3 for 22. PBKS’s response was emphatic from the very first over, where they hammered 21 runs off Deepak Chahar to signal their intent.

Prabhsimran and Iyer Blow Away MI Attack to Clinch Dominant Win

Despite losing two early wickets to the young Afghan spinner Allah Ghazanfar (2/31), the chase remained firmly on track. Prabhsimran Singh played a brutal, unbeaten knock of 80 off 39 balls, striking at a phenomenal rate of 205.13.

He was brilliantly supported by skipper Shreyas Iyer, who played a blazing innings of 66 off 35 balls, including four massive sixes. The duo systematically dismantled the MI attack, even taking 16 runs off a Jasprit Bumrah over.

Marcus Stoinis eventually sealed the game with a boundary in the 17th over, finishing at 198/3 and securing a dominant win for the visitors.
