Kolkata Knight Riders faced a tough challenge against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 6 of the Indian Premier League 2026 on Thursday, as a run-fest unfolded at Eden Gardens. In a game dominated by aggressive batting, SRH posted a formidable total of 226/8 in 20 overs, eventually putting KKR under immense pressure in the chase.
After being asked to bat first, SRH got off to a flying start, with their top order taking full advantage of the powerplay. Travis Head smashed a quick 46 off 21 balls, while Abhishek Sharma continued the assault, helping SRH race past 80 within the first six overs.
Although KKR fought back in the middle overs with crucial wickets, SRH regained momentum through Heinrich Klaasen, who played a match-defining knock. Klaasen scored a brisk half-century off 34 balls, anchoring the innings and guiding SRH beyond the 200-run mark.
In response, KKR began aggressively, with Finn Allen smashing 28 off just 7 balls, giving the hosts a blistering start. However, early wickets—including captain Ajinkya Rahane—derailed their momentum.

Raghuvanshi fifty in vain as KKR lose momentum
Youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi kept KKR in the hunt with a well-compiled half-century, while Rinku Singh tried to accelerate in the middle overs. Despite these efforts, regular wickets and scoreboard pressure proved costly as KKR struggled to keep up with the required run rate.
Earlier in the match, KKR bowlers had moments of success, with Blessing Muzarabani picking up 4 wickets for 41 runs, but the overall bowling effort fell short against SRH’s relentless batting.
In the end, SRH’s explosive start and strong finish proved decisive, as they outplayed KKR in a high-scoring encounter. The result highlights SRH’s batting depth, while KKR will need to address their bowling inconsistencies and middle-order stability going forward.
