IPL 2026: Uncapped Indian Spinners Set To Ignite Bidding Wars

As the IPL 2026 mini-auction approaches, franchises are once again scanning India’s domestic circuit in search of uncapped talent capable of making an immediate impact. Over the years, young Indian spinners have often emerged as valuable assets, offering both match-winning ability and long-term squad depth.

With teams prioritising sustainability and flexibility, uncapped spinners who have shown composure in high-pressure situations are expected to spark strong bidding interest. Several franchises have already intensified their scouting efforts through domestic tournaments and trials, setting the stage for a competitive auction environment centred around emerging spin options.

Tanush Kotian And Atharva Ankolekar, Mumbai’s Spin Strength

Tanush Kotian has cemented his reputation as one of the most dependable performers in Indian domestic cricket. His contributions during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy triumph in the 2023–24 season highlighted his ability to influence games consistently. Kotian’s rise continued when he earned a maiden India call-up for the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia, although he is yet to make his international debut.

His T20 record reflects control and reliability, with 33 wickets in 36 matches at an economy rate of 6.65, while his First-Class numbers are equally impressive, featuring 129 wickets from 43 matches. In the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy, he further showcased his form by picking up seven wickets in four innings.

Atharva Ankolekar, another Mumbai prospect, has quietly developed into a promising left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder. His value was evident when he became the most expensive player at the T20 Mumbai League 2025 auction. Ankolekar combined useful contributions with both bat and ball, scoring brisk runs while maintaining a steady bowling performance. His outings in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy reinforced his credentials, underlining his appeal as a versatile option who can add balance to an IPL squad.

Kumar Kartikeya And Praveen Dubey, Experience Meets Opportunity

Kumar Kartikeya offers franchises a left-arm spin option with prior IPL exposure, making him an attractive, cost-effective choice. His domestic form has been particularly strong, with impressive performances in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Ranji Trophy for Madhya Pradesh. Having already featured in the IPL and delivered decent returns, Kartikeya combines experience with consistency, qualities that franchises often seek in uncapped players.

Praveen Dubey, recently released by Punjab Kings, enters the auction with a point to prove. Although opportunities were limited in IPL 2025, his performances in domestic T20 cricket for Karnataka suggest he still has much to offer. With solid wicket-taking ability and familiarity with the league’s demands, Dubey could emerge as a smart pick for teams looking to bolster their spin resources ahead of the 2026 season.
