Amid all the insecurities of cricket in the COVID-19 era, IPL became the most top-trending query on google. The term IPL has been searched the most number of times in the meantime and has beaten  COVID-19 to the race.

As per Google India’s Year In Search 2020, IPL 13 became the top-trending query on the internet in the meantime. The 13th edition of the IPL was won Mumbai Indians who beat Delhi Capitals in the final to win their fifth title.

This year, every major sporting event was either cancelled or postponed due to the worldwide impact of COVID-19. The events cancelled included the Euro 2020 to the Tokyo Olympics to the ICC World T20 World Cup. One the cancellation of the World T20 was confirmed by the ICC, the BCCI used the September-October window to stage the cash-rich league in the UAE.

IPL-Top Trending Query on Google

The work which went behind the successful season of the biggest franchise-based league was immense. The BCCI and its working committee worked day and night to get the season played out maintaining all the health protocols stated by the Indian government and the ICC.

Meanwhile, besides the IPL, novel coronavirus, US Presidential elections, Bihar election results, and Delhi election results also featured in the overall top trending query on the search engine.

“From the global pandemic to the history-making US elections, the year in search continues to recapitulate the top search trends, offering a unique perspective to the questions internet users have asked on Google Search,” the company was quoted as saying.

The viewership saw a 28 percent increase this year with all the cricket fans staying glued to their television sets for the entire length of the season. Meanwhile, the BCCI are planning to come up with a 10-team tournament, the discussions for which have already started.
