IPL Introduces Major Changes To Playing Conditions: Captains To Select XI After Toss

Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced major changes in the playing conditions for the upcoming season. The captain will now come out with two different team sheets and send them to play their last XI after the toss.

This change will allow franchisees to pick their best XI based on batting or bowling first, thus ensuring they have the right impact players.

Previously, captains had to change their squad before the limited-overs tournament because it did not allow the team to choose the best XI for the given conditions.

The new rules will allow the franchise to plan better and select the best players based on whether they bat or bowl first. These techniques aim to level the pitch and lessen the effect of throwing.

The IPL has now adopted a similar thought process

Another important factor neutralizing the effect of rain is – rain usually has a significant impact in some parts of India, while the latter has a negative impact on the team. With the new rules, teams can adjust their starting XI accordingly, even in defeat.

The statistics from the last IPL 2019 match in India showed that the winning teams made the most money. During 60 matches, the team has won 34 and lost 23 (including no Super Overs).

However, with the introduction of this new rule, winning alone does not guarantee victory. For example: if a team want to bat first and then defend a low total on a slow track in the conditions of the turn forced to bowl first.

It can play as an extra spinner in the starting XI and replace the specialist bowler in the second innings to help in the pursuit. How this rule will change the game’s dynamics and actually level the playing field is yet to be seen.
