From Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders to Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, several teams have achieved this feat with fearless batting.

Teams Scoring 20 and 21 Runs in the First Over

Several teams have made explosive starts in IPL history by scoring 20 or more runs in the first over of their innings. Three teams—Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Deccan Chargers (DC), and Rajasthan Royals (RR)—have managed to score 20 runs in the opening over of an innings. Their aggressive batting gave them an early advantage in their respective matches.

Rajasthan Royals went a step further and recorded 21 runs in the first over against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Durban in IPL 2009. Later, in IPL 2018, Kolkata Knight Riders matched this score when they scored 21 runs in the first over against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens.

Teams Scoring 24 Runs in the First Over

In IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals set a new record by scoring 24 runs in the first over of an innings. The team at the receiving end of this aggressive start was Kolkata Knight Riders in a match played at Ahmedabad. This performance demonstrated the impact of aggressive opening batting in T20 cricket.

Highest First-Over Score in IPL History

The highest number of runs ever scored in the first over of an IPL innings is 26, achieved by the Rajasthan Royals. They accomplished this feat against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in IPL 2023. This remains the most runs scored in the first over of an innings in IPL history, highlighting the Royals’ explosive start in that match.
