Arshdeep Singh picks fastest to pick 50 wickets in T20I

India’s young pacer Arshdeep Singh created history by becoming the fastest Indian pacer bowler to pick 50 T20I wickets. He achieved this feat during the 2nd One-day international match against Ireland played at Malahide, Dublin on 20th August 2023.

Ireland captain Paul Stirling won the toss and decided to field first. Ruturaj Gaikwad showed his promise with 58. Sanju Samson scored with a quickfire knock putting up an excellent display of batting. Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube looked a little edgy before launching an assault putting on 42 runs in the last 2 overs to help India post 185 for 5.

Arshdeep Singh struggled a little bit initially as Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling showed intent. Singh was smashed for a six but backed well to dismiss the dangerous Balbirnie for 72. India registered comprehensive 33 runs win over Ireland. Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, and Ravi Bishnoi picked 2 wickets each while Arshdeep Singh grabbed 1 wicket. George Dockrell was run out involved with a mix-up.

Arshdeep Singh made his T20I debut for Team India in the first match of the series against England at Rose Bowl, Southampton on 7th July 2022. Since then, he has featured in 33 T20I matches ( 33 innings) and picked up 50 wickets so far including best figures of 4 for 37 against New Zealand at an economy of 8.49 runs per over.

Arshdeep Singh broke the record of Jasprit Bumrah to pick the fastest 50 wickets in the T20I format. The left-arm pacer achieved the feat of 33 matches while Bumrah took 41 matches to grab half-century wickets in the shorter format.

Arshdeep is the second fastest now to achieve the 50-wicket milestone in the T20I format. Kuldeep Yadav achieved the milestone in just 30 matches. Singh looked impressive during the 2nd T20I match by picking 1 wicket from his 4 overs giving away 29 runs. He removed the dangerous Andrew Balbirnie and then produced some lovely death overs bowling against Craig Young. It was a superb bowling effort by Indian bowlers not allowing them to score freely.
