IREvPAK: Ireland openers fight back on day 3 after following on

Ireland fought back brilliantly on day 3 after being bowled out cheaply in the first innings at Malahide, Dublin. Pakistan on their overnight score of 268 for 6, declared their innings. Pakistan bowlers used the seaming conditions in the first innings and bowled out Ireland. In the second innings, Ireland openers have done well.

Starting on the overnight score of 268 for 6, Pakistan lost the wicket of Shadab Khan just adding 3 runs. Faheem Ashraf played with positive intent and added some quick runs for Pakistan. Ashraf was dismissed for 83 taking past Pakistan score beyond 300. Before the lunch break, Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Aamir broke the backbone of Ireland batting line-up reducing the hosts to 5 for 3 at lunch.

After the lunch break, Ireland struggled more losing the wicket of N O Brien. Ireland lost wickets at regular intervals. Kevin O Brien made 40 runs while the rest of batting line-up could not do well against Pakistan pace bowling. At the tea break, Ireland were 95 for 8.

Gary Wilson made an important 33 runs not out. Despite that Ireland were bowled out for 130. For Pakistan Mohammad Abbas picked 4 wickets while Shadab Khan took 3 wickets. Pakistan decided to follow on the innings.

In their second innings, Ireland openers Ed Joyce and captain William Porterfield showed much better application. They played with positive intent, settled their nerves. Pakistan lost the services of their fast bowler Mohammad Aamir. Ireland finished the 3rd day on 64 for 0 and hope to continue their resistance on the 4th day.
