Amid a lot of discussions and debate, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that senior fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma, whose injury saga has been the talk of the town in the last couple of weeks, is still in contention to achieve match fitness for the Test series.

Ishant Sharma ruled out

Ishant featured only in one game in the recently-concluded IPL before suffering a hamstring injury. He returned to India and began his rehabilitation before joining the National Cricket Academy. An official statement from the board says Ishant has been ruled out of the series, despite having recovered completely from his side strain.

The statement further added that Ishant Sharma is now building up his workload to achieve Test match fitness, but the series Down Under will come too soon for him.

“Ishant has recovered completely from his side strain injury sustained during IPL 2020 in the U.A.E. While he’s building up his workload in order to achieve Test match fitness, Mr Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” BCCI statement said.

Rohit Sharma to be assessed on December 11

On the other hand, the injury saga of Rohit Sharma has been no short of less than a cinema plot. After skipper Virat Kohli indirectly took a dig at BCCI over lack of clarity on Rohit’s fitness issue, the apex body showed the urgency by releasing an official statement at the stroke of midnight.

The batsman still hangs in the balance as he continues his rehabilitation at the NCA. Rohit Sharma will next be assessed on December 11, following which the board will have clarity on his chances of making it to Australia. BCCI also cleared that Rohit returned to India from UAE to see his ailing father, who is doing well now.

“He is presently undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Mr Rohit Sharma’s next assessment will be conducted on December 11th following which the BCCI will have clarity on his participation in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia,” the statement added.
