Team India opener KL Rahul dished out an outstanding century on day 1 of the Boxing Day Test as the visiting took a comfortable seat at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Riding on Rahul’s unbeaten hundred, Virat Kohli & Co posted 272/3 on the opening day.

Rahul, who made a superlative comeback in the Test side in the England series, continued his brilliant form to lead India’s batting from the front. It was Rahul’s sixth away ton, seventh overall, as he added South Africa to the list of away venues where he has registered a three-figure milestone.

Reacting to his super batting display on bcci.tv, KL Rahul said:

“I mean, it is truly special; every hundred really takes something out of you and gives you a lot of joy. There are so many emotions you go through when you score a hundred. You play and fight for 6-7 hours’ those are the kind of innings that really stand out and as players, we really cherish these.”

The batsman from Karnataka added:

“Really happy that I could stay there not out, and it is what is expected out of me. Once I and Mayank got off to a good start, I started enjoying my batting, and I did not think too far ahead.”

KL Rahul added 117 runs alongside Mayank Agarwal for the first wicket before putting in another two significant contributions with Virat Kohli (35) and Ajinkya Rahane (40*) to put India on top.

“The purpose and the intensity we had in training that was something very refreshing” – KL Rahul

India’s hero from day 1 further asserted that he spends more time visualising his batting rather than spending time batting for hours and hours in the nets.

“Preparation has been really good; the purpose and the intensity we had in training that was something very refreshing. All the batters that batted on Day 1 were really focused; you could see that we have put in a lot of work. I’m not someone who bats hours and hours in the nets; I do spend a lot of time thinking about my batting and visualising my innings,” KL Rahul added.

KL Rahul will look to convert the century into a big hundred alongside Ajinkya Rahane, who has shown hints of returning to form.
