The retirement speculation of the former India skipper MS Dhoni has been the talk of the town for quite some time now. He has been on a sabbatical since India’s lost to New Zealand in the rain-marred semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2019 in England. As the world continues to debate on his retirement, former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad believes Dhoni will find it difficult to make a comeback.
Incidentally, the legendary wicket-keeper batsman copped severe criticisms for his below-par performances throughout the tournament. His poor outing with the bat also took a toll on his confidence which in turn affected in wicket-keeping. MS Dhoni was mulling a return during the Indian Premier League (IPL) and had already started his training at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

However, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic outbreak, the tournament has been postponed for an indefinite period which was scheduled to commence from March 29. With the future of the competition in jeopardy, Dhoni’s international return was all but over. While many feel that there is still scope for MS Dhoni to return but Venkatesh Prasad feels it looks difficult from the current scenario.
“It’s very tough for him to really break into the team. It’s tough for him now again to make a comeback because he’s not played cricket for almost a year,” Prasad was quoted as saying by Timesofindia.com.
“There is no doubt he is very fit but then your reflexes tend to come down as you grow old. He is nearing 40. So, it’s not going to be easy for him. I would also leave it to the team management. If he shows good fitness and also if team management comes up with some strategy,” he added.

“Let’s not forget, Dhoni has experience and the inputs that he would give, that’s extremely valuable,” Prasad signed off.
