The board of control for cricket in India even posted a video of the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy when the Indian cricket team was about to come back home after getting victorious. The Men in Blue or Indian side, attained the winning position in the championship game on Saturday, June 29, at the Kensington Oval located in the capital city of Barbados, where the team beat South Africa by seven runs.

The 15-member team headed by Rohit Sharma was left in the island nation after their win was marred by Hurricane Beryl, which shut down the airport. However, the crew has resolved to head back to their base after three days on board a dedicated aircraft expected to reach Delhi in the early hours of Thursday, July 4. ’ It’s coming home,’ the BCCI tweeted before sharing a video of the World Cup Trophy before it left.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be in New Delhi and so is the Indian cricket team. The Prime Minister, who, according to the Daily Times, had called the team to congratulate them on their marvelous performance, proceeded to sing the team’s accolades. It is pertinent to recall that PM Modi entered the Indian team’s dressing room after the bitter-hearted defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

India, who elected to bat first, amassed a respectable 176 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs, with Virat Kohli top-scoring with 76 off 59 balls. In their 20 overs, South Africa could only muster 169 runs for 8 wickets; Hardik Pandya ensured victory for India with a mere 15 runs conceded in the final over.

India’s 11-year search for another major ICC trophy came to an end with this victory; their last major trophy came from winning the Champions Trophy in England in 2013. The team’s return to join in the festivities after winning the championship has everyone in the nation buzzing.
