“I’ve Had Two Kids Since You Last Scored A Century” – Alex Lees Recalls Virat Kohli Sledging Incident

Alex Lees Virat Kohli

England Test cricketer Alex Lees recalled an interesting incident featuring veteran India cricketer Virat Kohli that took place during the Edgbaston Test in 2022. The left-handed batter was involved in a sledging incident with Virat Kohli during the match and had a cheeky response for the Indian cricketer.

In the book “Bazball: The Inside Story of a Test Cricket Revolution”, Lees shared the riveting encounter between him and Virat Kohli. The Indian cricketer was sledging Alex Lees during the match. However, the England batter was unfazed by Virat Kohli’s actions. Alex Lees revealed in the book,

“Kohli was carrying on for quite a while. Because I was an inexperienced international, he was trying to use his weight. It was a pretty poor cricket chat.”

Alex Lees’ cheeky response to Virat Kohli’s sledge

Alex Lees further expressed that Virat Kohli was being “an idiot” during the whole sledging incident. The Indian cricketer was trying to get under the skin of the England batter. However, Alex Lees turned up the Virat Kohli and responded cheekily. Recalling the incident further, the left-hander wrote,

“He was just carrying on in a fashion he can do sometimes. He had been getting under people’s skin in the field when he was batting. I’m not fussed about someone’s position in the game. We are all equal out on the pitch. I just wasn’t going to put up with someone trying to intimidate me. It was as simple as that. He is an incredible player, but I thought he was just being a bit of an idiot.”

“I’ve had two kids since you last scored a century,” responded Lees to Kohli’s sledge.

Virat Kohli was going through a rough patch with the bat. He hadn’t scored a century since November 2019. He managed just 11 and 20 in the Edgbaston test, which India eventually lost, as England pulled off a record run-chase of 378.
