Jadeja Celebrates Century In Style After Gill Calls For The ‘Sword’ In Manchester Test

Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja notched up his fifth Test hundred in emphatic fashion, smashing Harry Brook for a six over long-on and following it up with a distinctive celebration. The milestone came on Day 5 (Sunday, July 27) of the fourth Test against England at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.

Facing the third delivery of the 141st over during India’s second innings, Jadeja advanced down the pitch to a flighted delivery outside off and lofted it beyond long-on to complete his century in 182 balls. Instead of his usual sword celebration, the 36-year-old opted for a stylish “Pushpa” movie-inspired move—lifting his bat to his forehead and sliding it sideways with flair.

From the dressing room, captain Shubman Gill was seen humorously signaling Jadeja to perform his trademark sword gesture.

Jadeja and Washington Sundar put on an unbeaten 203-run stand for the fifth wicket to help India draw the fourth Test after trailing by 311 runs. Jadeja scored 107* (13 fours, 1 six), while Sundar remained unbeaten on 101* (9 fours, 1 six). India ended their second innings at 425/4, leading by 114 runs.

Jadeja Registers Unique Record After Ton In ENG vs IND 4th Test

Ravindra Jadeja reached a rare milestone with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 107 off 185 balls in the drawn fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Sunday, July 27. His knock included 13 fours and a six.

With this century, the 36-year-old became the only Indian batter to score two Test hundreds in England while batting at number six or lower. He had earlier hit 104 at Edgbaston during the 2022 tour. This was also the fifth Test century of his career.

Earlier in the day, the all-rounder equaled VVS Laxman for the joint-most Test fifties by an Indian. With 454 runs in eight innings, Jadeja has emerged as one of the top scorers in the ongoing five-match series. He also played a resilient knock of 61* in the second innings of the third Test, though India fell short by 22 runs and slipped to a 1-2 deficit in the series.
