Jason Gillespie Fires A Sharp Dig At Pakistan Head Coach Aaqib Javed

Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie didn’t hold back in his criticism of Pakistan’s interim head coach Aaqib Javed, even referring to him as a “clown.” The 49-year-old made the remark while commenting on an Instagram post on Wednesday, March 5.

The post highlighted Javed’s claims that frequent management changes were responsible for Pakistan cricket’s decline. However, Gillespie appeared unimpressed and strongly criticized the Pakistani coach.

Notably, Gillespie was appointed as Pakistan’s red-ball coach in April last year, while former South African cricketer and World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten took charge of the white-ball team.

Gillespie suggested that Javed, who was serving as a national selector at the time, undermined both his and Kirsten’s roles in an attempt to secure the all-format coaching position for himself. He also shared his comment on his Instagram story. The comment read:

“This is hilarious. Aaqib was clearly undermining Gary and I behind the scenes campaigning to be the coach in all formats. He is a clown.”

Kirsten resigned as Pakistan’s white-ball coach after six months in the role. Following his departure, Jason Gillespie was appointed as the interim white-ball coach but stepped down just a month later.

“Consistency and continuity in policies are key” – Aaqib Javed’s advice for Pakistan cricket’s progress

Aaqib Javed is set to serve as Pakistan’s head coach for the upcoming white-ball tour of New Zealand. Ahead of the series, he addressed a press conference, stressing the importance of consistency across all aspects of Pakistan cricket. As quoted by News 18, Aaqib Javed stated:

“You want to take Pakistan cricket forward then you need to have consistency and continuity in policies in our cricket starting from the PCB Chairman to the players.”

”Since last year, see how many captains, coaches, selectors and board Chairman have changed. This is never an ideal situation for the team and it does affect their performances.”
