India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah makes a return to the Indian Team as he has been added to the ODI squad in 3 matches ODI series against Sri Lanka starting on 10th January 2023.

It will be a major boost for the Indian team as their bowling struggled in the recent series against New Zealand and Bangladesh away from home. Bumrah suffered a stress fracture during the 2nd One-day international match against England at Lords in July 2022.

He was rushed back to the Indian squad for the T20I series against Australia. After featuring in the 2nd T20I match, Bumrah suffered the same injury and was ruled out of the series. Apart from the T20 World Cup, the premier pace bowler did not feature in the Asia Cup 2022 as India could not qualify for the finals. He then did not take part in T20I and ODI series against South Africa at home. Bumrah was ruled out of the prestigious T20 World Cup played in Australia last year.

The Indian selectors announced the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka on 27 December 2022. Bumrah will not take part in the T20I series starting today.

“The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the NCA,” the BCCI said in a statement. “He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon.”

Bumrah has been the backbone of the Indian bowling line-up. The three ODI matches will be played on the 10th, 12th, and 15th of January. He is known to pick wickets in powerplay overs and then can create an impact on the opposition batters with his death bowling.

Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik, and Arshdeep Singh has been named as the pace bowling options for the series. Bumrah was supposed to return for the New Zealand limited overs series but after completing his rehabilitation, he has been included. He will play the 3rd One-day international match against Sri Lanka to be played on 15th January 2023.
