Jasprit Bumrah reveals his childhood cricket memories

Jasprit Bumrah was all smiles yesterday as he was awarded the 2019 Youth Icon by the Forbes India. He as awarded in a grand event at Mumbai yesterday. He spent some time speaking with Gourav Kalra, the sports editor of Network18 group.

Bumrah”s rise in International cricket has its own importance. After being included in the 2016 tour of Australia, he scripted a story of his own. Additionally, he received caps in all three formats of the game in no time. Several former cricketers including Glenn McGrath kept on praising his quality of the game since then.

Often lauded for his death-bowling skills, Bumrah is now the top-ranked bowler in ODI”s. Though India wasn”t able to qualify for the finals of the World Cup, he made a difference in every game.

“As a kid, I used to watch a lot of cricket on TV and tried to emulate the bowling actions of all the top bowlers in the world. So every day when I went out to play it was a new bowling action. There is no better feeling when kids are emulating your bowling action because I used to do that when I was growing up”, said Bumrah.

He also credited Malinga in tuning him to deliver the yorker perfectly. Both of them have had their times at Mumbai Indians camp over the years. Speaking on the same he said, “I started playing cricket with the tennis ball and the most useful delivery then to pick up wickets was the yorkers, so I stuck to that. When I came to IPL and played in the same team with Malinga, he showed me the importance of bowling accurate yorkers. I think I am decent with the delivery but I want to get better.”

Bumrah-the backbone of Indian bowling

Jasprit Bumrah is currently on a two-week break and will be joining the Indian side ahead of tests. His presence plays an important role as India will be looking to adding some points in the test championship.

Several youngsters are granted a chance for the limited-overs on his place and it will be big shoes to fill for them.

Speaking on his role in tests he said, “Like I said, growing up I used to watch a lot of cricket on TV and I used to watch a lot of Tests. My aim is to play as many Tests as possible because that’s the pinnacle for me. In my book, I rate Test cricket very highly.
