Jay Shah To Take Decision On Chetan Sharma

The chief selector of Indian Cricket BCCI, Chetan Sharma told the truth in a sting operation done by Zee News on 14 February 2023. Chetan Sharma was re-appointed as the selector after India’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2022. India lost badly by 10 wickets in the semi-finals against a strong England side played at Adelaide Oval.

While the sting operation with Zee News, Chetan Sharma disclosed the private conservations with coach Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli. The sectary of BCCI Jay Shah will take decisions on Chetan Sharma soon.

“It will be (BCCI secretary) Jay’s (Shah) call as to what will be Chetan’s future. The question is whether T20 skipper Hardik Pandya or ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma would like to sit with Chetan in a selection meeting knowing that he has let out internal discussions,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by Zee.

Team India are currently playing against Australia in the Test series

The Indian team progressed into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 but could not qualify for the grand finale. Jasprit Bumrah has been struggling with injuries as he and team management disagreed if Jasprit Bumrah should return to the T20I series against Australia. He missed the T20 World Cup due to a recurrence of a back injury.

He was ruled off the first two Test matches and will not take further part in the remaining two matches against Australia. Bumrah would not feature in the ODI series against Australia after the Test series. Chetan Sharma also revealed that there was an ego clash between Virat Kohli and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.

“Virat Kohli felt he lost the captaincy because of BCCI President. There were 9 people in the selection committee video conference, Ganguly may have told him ‘think about it once’. I think Kohli didn’t hear it, there were 9 others there including myself and all other selectors, BCCI officials – Kohli might not have heard him,” Chetan Sharma was heard saying in the video.

India has taken a 1-0 lead in the Border Gavaskar series thumping Australia by innings and 132 runs at VCA Stadium, Nagpur.
