India all-rounder Jayant Yadav, who is currently a part of the Test squad, has been asked to stay back for the three-match ODIs against South Africa as a cover-up for Washington Sundar. Incidentally, Sundar, who was slated for a comeback after a long injury haul, tested positive for COVID-19 and is doubtful for the white-ball leg.
Recently, Washington along with Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Venkatesh Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Yuzuvendra Chahal, and Prasidh Krishna travelled to South Africa for the 50-overs format. However, on arrival, Washington Sundar tested positive for COVID-19.
Luckily, the other cricketers have tested negative for the deadly virus. The ODI series is scheduled to start on the 19th of January and will end on the 23rd of January.
Meanwhile, Jayant Yadav will relish the opportunity if it comes his way. He has played just one One Day International so far in 2016 against New Zealand in which he finished with figures of 1 wicket for 8 runs.
Washington Sundar isolated from the remaining squad
The young all-rounder from Tamil Nadu is currently under quarantine away from the remaining players who travelled with him. The likes of Dhawan, Chahal and others are currently undergoing three-day isolation and will join the remaining squad once they test negative after three days.
“Sundar has tested positive and he has been isolated from other players. All other players’ reports came negative. They are undergoing a three-day quarantine period. Once they get three negative reports, these players will go into the Indian team bubble,” a BCCI official told as quoted by Indian Express.
Meanwhile, India will hope to continue their good run in the ODIs against South Africa. The previous ODI series in South Africa in 2018 was completely dominated by India with a scoreline of 5-1.
