Jharkhand Announce Squad For Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Season

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has unveiled its squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season commencing on October 11, with significant changes in leadership and player composition.

Ishan Kishan Appointed Captain Amidst Young Team Overhaul

In a strategic move, Jharkhand has entrusted the captaincy to Ishan Kishan, replacing the retired Saurabh Tiwary. Kishan, who withdrew from the squad in the previous edition, returns to lead the team following his recent participation in domestic fixtures like the Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup. This decision aligns with the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) emphasis on non-selected players’ active involvement in domestic cricket.

New Faces and Leadership Roles

With the departure of seasoned players like Shahbaz Nadeem and Varun Aaron, Jharkhand’s squad now reflects a youthful approach. Virat Singh, formerly captain, assumes the vice-captaincy, supporting Kishan’s leadership. Kumar Kushagra takes on the wicketkeeping duties, backed by a lineup including promising talents such as Nazim Siddique and Anukul Roy.

Expectations and Strategy for the Season

Speaking on the squad selection, JSCA’s selection committee chairman, Subroto Das, expressed confidence in Ishan Kishan’s leadership abilities amidst the young team. The committee aims for a competitive performance in the Ranji season, emphasizing Kishan’s international experience and the team’s overall potential to deliver strong results.

The squad announcement marks a pivotal moment for Jharkhand cricket as they prepare to navigate the challenges of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season with a blend of seasoned leadership and emerging talent.

Overall, Jharkhand enters the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season with a rejuvenated and youthful squad, under the experienced leadership of Ishan Kishan. With the retirements of key players like Saurabh Tiwary, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Varun Aaron, the team has undergone significant changes.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association is optimistic that this fresh approach, coupled with Kishan’s international experience and the support of players like vice-captain Virat Singh, will position them for a strong showing in the tournament. The season ahead presents both challenges and opportunities for the young team to make their mark.
