England pacer Jofra Archer was visibly upset after a communication error with all-rounder Brydon Carse led to a run-out during the second T20I against India at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The incident occurred on January 25, during the 17th over of England’s innings. Carse played a googly from Ravi Bishnoi towards midwicket and attempted a run.
However, a miscommunication resulted in hesitation as both players entered a yes-no-yes-no situation. While Carse tried to complete the second run, Archer sent him back too late, allowing Dhruv Jurel to execute a sharp throw, resulting in Carse’s dismissal. Archer’s frustration was evident as cameras captured his reaction to the costly mix-up.
England’s Batting Woes Continue
England’s batting lineup once again struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. After a disappointing performance in the first T20I at Eden Gardens, expectations were high for a stronger showing in Chennai. Despite the hopes, only skipper Jos Buttler managed to put up a notable score, contributing 45 runs off 30 balls. Lower-order batter Brydon Carse displayed some resistance, smashing 31 runs off just 17 balls with one four and three sixes. However, his innings ended prematurely due to the unfortunate run-out, leaving England in a precarious position.
Star Performers, Buttler and Archer Stand Out
Although England suffered back-to-back defeats, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer continued to showcase their talent. In the first T20I, Buttler delivered an impressive 68 off 44 balls, including eight boundaries and two sixes. Despite receiving little support from the other end, Buttler held the innings together after the early dismissals of Phil Salt and Ben Duckett. On the bowling side, Jofra Archer impressed with figures of 2/21 in four overs.
His pace and clever variations troubled India’s batters, with key dismissals of Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav briefly giving England hope. Adil Rashid also chipped in, claiming Abhishek Sharma’s wicket with a well-executed wrong’un. Despite these individual efforts, the overall lack of support from other players resulted in a poor team performance, leaving England struggling to compete against the strong Indian side.
